BGR-34 – An herbal drug for diabetes in Hyderabad

launching of BGR-34

A Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) lab in Lucknow has launched an anti-diabetes herbal drug called BGR-34. The drug is a scientifically validated one and has been launched recently.

The drug is designed with Ayurvedic science. It is made to treat type-II diabetes mellitus. The drug is made with a combination of natural extractsobtained from plants.

The drug has been jointly developed by two CSIR laboratories. The two labs which worked for the manufacture of BGR-34 are the National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI) and Central Institute for Medicinal and Aromatic Plant (CIMAP).

BGR-34 has been launched on October 25. It was the 62nd annual day of NBRI. Dr AKS Rawat, senior principal scientist at NBRI stated that the drug has been made with the extracts from four plants from Ayurvedic science, thus making it safe.

The official reports stated that the drug has gone through animal testing and scientific studies have shown that the drug is safe without any side effects. The clinical trials of the drugs have shown a success rate of 67 percent. Due to such high positive rate, the drug has received backing of science even though there are many other herbal drugs out there.

BGR-34 has the following functions:

  • The drug boosts the immune system.
  • It acts as an antioxidant.
  • It regulates normal blood glucose levels.
  • The complications that can be caused by persistent high blood glucose levels are reduced with the drug.
  • It increases the quality of life for patients with high blood sugar levels.

Vice-President Hamid Ansari had already launched the drug in February last year at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Now, the drug has been launched commercially and it is to be manufactured and sold by M/s Aimil Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd, New Delhi. The estimated price of the drug is to be Rs.500 for 100 tablets.

    dear yogesh
Generally speaking, no, because you are not ingesting toothpaste. However, you do want to pay attention to the ingredients in things like cough syrup and other medicaitons over the counter that may have sugar in them. Many products have sugar free versions. Always ask your pharmacist when you aren’t clear about the best product to buy for diabetes.
